An area of work in public health that promotes and maintains the highest degree of physical, mental and social wellbeing of workers in all occupations. Its work runs from the improvement of working conditions and the working environment to the development of work organization and working cultures conducive to safety and health, including managerial systems, personnel policy and principles for worker participation. Its science and practice draw on several disciplines, among them occupational medicine, nursing, ergonomics, psychology, hygiene and safety.
