Population-level screening of women for cervical cancer and its HPV-related precursor lesions, using methods that include HPV DNA testing (with self-collected samples shown to be as reliable as provider-collected ones) and visual inspection of the cervix after applying acetic acid, with or without colposcopy. The World Health Organization's global elimination strategy sets a target of screening 70 percent of women with a high-performance test by age 35 and again by age 45, as one of three targets to be reached by 2030.
